science badge recount

Last week on Friday the 7th of December I did my Paleontology science badge presentation in my classroom room 1. I was presenting my science badge to different classes. We presented them on science boards by having them standing up so people could read the work and I could tell them things about what I had to do We presented our science badges because my teacher told us to. We each got to choose which science badge we would like to complete. Science badge sheets have a lot of activities on them and each activity has a certain number of stars attached to it. We had to have 20 stars completed to be ready to present our science badge. The activities I had were making a dinosaur and reading a book. Here is a photo of me

Te Uru response

On the august the 28th 10ch from Grey High school
came to our school to teach us a game called Te Uru
because they had to do it for some of their work.

This is how you play the game: you have to throw the ball to your team mates to get it down to the pads that you score on you team mates have to catch the ball with a flat palm and if you catch the ball and your touching a pad you score.

I did not really like Te Uru because there was not enough to the game. Maybe next time 10ch needs to actually ref the game and not just turn their backs and talk to each other and try a game like league

refugee poem

            Refugee Poem
Read it down and then up
They have no need to live
So do not tell us that
These worn out faces could belong to you or I
Should life dealt a different way
We need to show them for who they truly are
Beggars and scavengers
Lazy and loungers
With explosives up their sleeves
Murderers and thieves
And they are not
Welcome here
We should make them
Go back to where they came from
They cannot
Have our food
Share our homes
Share our land
Instead let us
build a wall to keep them out
For trump to say
It is not okay
These people are just like us
A place should only belong to those who were born there
Do not be so half-witted to think that
But the world can be looked at from another view

St John Response

St John Response: On the third of September my class went into the tech centre and learnt CPR
and how to save someone’s life when they are unconscious but breathing normally.
Here is a picture of me doing CPR. I found this valuable because
I did not know how to do CPR .

Gravity

Gravity is a force that attracts all objects towards each other. People are attracted towards

the Earth and the Earth towards people, the Moon and the Earth are attracted towards each

other, and the Sun and the Earth are attracted towards each other. All of these attractions

are caused by gravity. Gravitational attraction is greater for more massive objects. Gravity

decreases as distance between the objects increases.

Gravity attracts all things towards each other

Every object in the Universe is being attracted towards every other object by the force of gravity.
This means that there is nowhere you can go in the Universe where gravity is not acting. Examples
of gravity in action:
  • Gravity holds the atmosphere in place around the Earth.
  • Gravity keeps people on the Earth’s surface.
  • Gravity keeps the International Space Station in orbit around the Earth.
  • Gravity keeps the Moon orbiting around the Earth.
  • Gravity keeps the Earth orbiting around the Sun.
Isaac Newton was the first to come up with the idea that allEarth-Moon system and gravity
Any two masses are attracted towards each other by gravity. This force of gravity causes the
Moon to change direction to make it orbit around the Earth.

Gravity doesn’t disappear just because you are above the atmosphere. Even if an object is high above
the Earth’s atmosphere, there will still be a strong force of gravity pulling it towards the centre of the
Earth. At an altitude of 30 km, you would be above 99% of the Earth’s atmosphere. At 100 km, you
would officially be in space, yet the weight force of gravity would still be nearly the same. You and the
Earth would still be pulled together.

Isaac Newton worked out that, if the distance from the centre of the Earth doubles, gravity becomes a
quarter as much as it was on the surface. A satellite with a mass of 1000 kg has a weight force of 9800
N at the Earth’s surface. The radius of the Earth is about 6366 km, so at 6366 km above the Earth’s
surface, the distance from the centre of the Earth will have doubled. The weight force pulling it towards
the centre of the Earth will now only be a quarter as much but will still be 2450 N.

So why doesn’t a 1000 kg satellite just fall back to Earth?

Sideways speed keeps satellites in orbit.

As a satellite moves around the Earth in a circular orbit, the direction of the force of gravity is
always towards the centre of the Earth.
At an altitude of 100 km, you would be so high that you would see black sky and stars if you looked
upwards. If you took a satellite to this height and released it, it would still fall towards the Earth
because the force of gravity is nearly the same as it is at the Earth’s surface.

However, if the satellite is given speed in any direction horizontal to the surface of the Earth, it will
travel further before it hits the Earth. If it is given enough speed, it will travel so far that, as it curves
towards the Earth, it will miss the Earth altogether. At just the right speed, it will move around the
Earth in a circular motion. This type of motion and the path that a satellite moves in is called an orbit.

Close to the Earth at an altitude of 100 km, a satellite needs to be moving at 8 kilometres per second
(28 000 km/h) to stay in orbit. At higher altitudes, satellites do not need to be travelling as fast.
Television communication satellites are at a higher altitude of 36 000 km and only need to travel
at 3 km/s (11,000 km/h).

The Moon is 360,000 km from the Earth and only needs to be travelling at 1 km/s to stay in orbit
around the Earth.

If there is gravity in space, why do astronauts appear weightless?
are attracted towards each other by gravity. Even people are attracted towards each other by gravity,
but this force is so small that it is not noticeable. Gravity only becomes noticeable if one (or both) of the
objects has a lot of mass, such as the Earth.

There is gravity in space

always towards the centre of the Earth.
At an altitude of 100 km, you would be so high that you would see black sky and stars if you looked

around the Earth.

If there is gravity in space, why do astronauts appear weightless?
Astronauts appear to be weightless for the same reason that a person on a trampoline feels weightless
when in the air. There is still the same amount of gravity acting, but there is no floor pushing upwards
on the astronaut, so the weight force cannot be felt.

If a person was in an elevator and the cables broke and the brakes failed (we are assured this
cannot happen), the person and the elevator would fall towards the Earth at the same rate.
The floor would not be holding the person upwards, so the person could enjoy the sensation
of weightlessness (for a brief while).

This is the same for astronauts high above the atmosphere on the International Space Station
(ISS) at an altitude of about 400 km. Gravity is still strong, but the astronaut and the ISS fall
towards the ground at the same rate. They are also both travelling horizontally at 28,000 km/h.
As they fall towards the ground, they travel so fast horizontally that they miss the Earth altogether
and orbit the Earth once every 90 minutes.

Nature of science

Science ideas change over time. Isaac Newton’s gravity-based world view has since been
superseded by Albert Einstein’s ideas that all masses distort space and time. This highlights the
fact that science is not a fixed body of knowledge. Although Einstein’s theory is widely accepted,
Newton’s law of universal gravitation is still used for practical situations such as satellite motion.

“Walk With A Wolf” by Janni Howker
Illustrator
Sarah- fox-Davies

“Walk With A Wolf” is a Walker book that is about wolves and how they live.
The genre is animal non fiction about how the wolves live and what they do

The setting is in the mountains, cold lakes, and dark forests of the Yukon territory of
North Western Canada.

The characters in “Walk With A Wolf” are the black male wolf pack leader,
the mother wolf, the pack, the wolf cubs, the moose they hunt for, and a flock of geese
passing by.

The plot is that the wolves are hungry and they have to hunt a moose which is dangerous
because they can kill wolves with a kick. They have to track the moose or try to find
something else .

My connection to this book is that it reminded me of my dog Newman because he sleeps
the same as the wolves and he’s a dog which makes him have some of the same
characteristics as them.
My opinion about the story is that I think the story was good because it has very good
punctuation, very good language, lots of rhyme and clines it also has very good artwork
and lots of similes, metaphors and very good adverbs verbs and adjectives.

I recommend this book to anyone over six because six year old's would not understand
some of the words, punctuation and clines and all the other things like that.

Jaxon's science fiction

Far Cry Valley Of The Yetis
By Jaxon
Ajay Ghale is a Malaysian so is Pagan Min, the royal army soldiers Yuma and the
Golden
Path mercenaries. Willis is an American CIA agent. Ajay Ghale got asked to help
Willis
(CIA agent) to kill some Royal Army commanders. Willis had dropped him off and
sent
him to kill the commanders. But Ajay could not just kill the commanders, he had to
kill the guards too.He started slowly killing the guards one by one with his sound
suppressed gun , but he had to do it quietly when he got to the commander. So he
had to find a way to kill him without getting caught. He saw a bear in a cage so he
silently shot open the lock. The bear ran ferociously over to the commanders and
their guards and quickly killed them.  Ajay’s mission was over, he just needed to
take a picture of the commander for evidence. When he had done that he went
back to the plane where Willis was waiting for him, and Willis told him about
his father. Ajay never knew his father. Image result for buzzsaw gun
Willis said, “Your dad was a patriot.” he pushed Ajay out of the plane and said,
“Your father was a patriot,so you are.”
Willis did not trust patriots. A royal army guard then knocked Ajay out and dragged
to Durgesh prison.
Later on at the royal army lab they were testing human D.N.A on a yeti they found
on the mountains. They decided to try something different. They tried tiger D.N.A.
The yeti went furious and broke out and killed everyone. The yeti ran quickly outside
and into the snow blizzard.
Later Ajay woke up at a prison on the side of the mountain. Pagan Min started to talk to Ajay and said, “It’s sad that you ended up here.”
When Pagan Min finished he left and Yuma injected Ajay and he fell asleep.
An hour later Ajay woke up and they were gone. Ajay had to find a way out
of the prison. He saw a wood plank at the edge of the cell so he walked carefully
across it and found a tunnel, so his hopes were up that he was going to get out
but he saw a shadow of a human like figure it was a demon! so he had to sneak past it.
Later he saw a dead man with a hook in his back and got the idea to make a grapple hook
to escape so he took the hook from the man's back and found some rope,  he went down
the mountain to the prison camp where the exit was. He found his gear, killed the guards
and used his wingsuit to escape.
When he landed he had to go through a blizzard and blacked out, when he
woke slowly he saw a big white figure in the distance, it was a yeti! quickly
he pulled out his buzzsaw (turret like gun) and started shooting at it,
It ran at him with the speed of light, splat! The golden path hit it with their
trucks. Later at the royal palace Pagan Min ordered the royal army to kill the
golden path and get Ajay back to durgesh prison. Later at the golden path base
the royal army started to attack the golden path, the golden path was falling,
but they heard a strange noise and stopped and looked around and saw a horde
of yeti’s running down the road. The yeti’s tore the royal army to shreds.
While they were fighting, the golden path had time to get out of there.
An hour later the golden path had finished planning to attack the royal palace.
Back at the royal palace the golden path split up, three mercenaries went
with Ajay up on the mountains and the rest of the golden path went to the
front gates, boom! they blew the gates open and started attacking, Ajay and
the three mercenaries got there sniper rifles out and shot the alarms so the royal
army could not call for reinforcements. There were bullets everywhere, the royal
army were losing but someone climbed up the mortar tower, aimed, fired  boom! It hit
the ground and crushed the golden path.
Luckily the royal army did not know that Ajay and the three mercenaries were up on
the mountain so Ajay and the mercenaries started shooting the remaining guards, bang!
bang! Bang! The golden path did it, they took out the royal palace, now all that was left
was for Ajay to kill Pagan.
Ajay entered the palace and talked to Ajay, they went to scatter Ajay’s mother’s ashes
with his sister’s (lakshmana). When he finished Pagan told Ajay that he did not have to
liberate all his outpost’s and fortresses to get control of Kyrat (ke-rat).
Kyrat was already his the moment he got there, he said he was going to keep the
helicopter and started to fly away, Ajay grabbed his buzzsaw and shot the helicopter
down.
The End
